What’s happening to the bible for the site owner (Google Webmaster tools)? It no longer exists!
The right answer is the second official announcement and we know that one of the best and free tools that allows site owners (webmasters) to know the health of their sites from today will no longer be called Google Webmaster Tools, but Google Search Console.
Why have Google chose to change the name of its well known Tools is due to the fact that the term Webmaster identifies a specific site owner, generally one that looks after all the aspects of the site like the programming, graphical design etc. However in reality Google Webmaster Tools is often used by other types of users that can be more or less experienced.
In addition to changing the name from Webmaster Tools to Search Console, it should be remembered that lately Google has launched other improvements such as the ability to know if our site is subject to a manual penalty, a section to see if your site is mobile optimized and the ability to add structured data without knowing one single line of code.
Among the latest changes that should be pointed out is the new interface and especially the possibility to apply filters on analysis of research under the Search Traffic heading, this new section offers many advantages over the old one in that you can compare metrics of the clicks, search impressions, CTR (click through rate) and your average search position. Currently this data is available for the previous 4 months and hopefully this will be extended over a longer period in the future.
